About Jazz Course UK
Jazz Course UK has been providing courses for
improvising musicians of all ages since 1995. With an
expanding programme we now cater for a wide range of ability
levels from beginner improviser through to advanced. Our
courses attract students from all over the UK and we have
a growing international interest with past students from
as far as Hong Kong , Thailand and Canada .
The first course we founded was the Cambridge Jazz Course
which has run twice a year ever since. It is the most
established course of its kind in the area and has provided
a valuable opportunity to hundreds of beginner/intermediate
improvisers. In 2002 we founded two new summer courses
in Scotland , the Edinburgh Jazz Summer School for intermediate/advanced
improvisers, and the Tron Jazz Course in Glasgow for beginner/intermediate
level. Both courses take place during the Edinburgh Festival,
the world's biggest arts festival, with on-site residential
facilities offered on the Edinburgh course. Glasgow also
has a huge amount to offer culturally and Edinburgh is
only a 50-minute journey away.
2007 sees the launch of an exciting new project. The Music
Workshop is our fantastic new venue in rural Scotland. Ideal for short break courses,
The Music Workshop occupies part of a former schoolhouse in the upper Clyde valley
in central Scotland. It is surrounded by beautiful open countryside yet is easily
accessible being only 30 miles from Edinburgh or Glasgow. The Music Workshop has
specially adapted facilities and provides a year round programme of high quality
music education.
All of our courses are practical and centre around ensemble
playing and performing. On some courses studio recording
is also offered. We place an emphasis on learning through
group workshops in an informal and non-threatening environment,
which we believe brings out the best in students. The
courses are intensive but ultimately great fun! … and
they also represent great value for money.
