JAZZ IMPROVISATION SCHOOL

Welcome to Jazz Course UK, the most established independent provider of jazz workshops and short courses in Scotland and England. Our jazz improvisation school has a year round national programme that caters for all levels and age groups of both youth (10+) and adult musicians. We have been successfully organising jazz education events since 1994 when we founded our first and longest running course in Cambridge. Since then we’ve developed courses in Glasgow and at our Scottish base venue The Music Workshop in the scenic upper Clyde Valley close to both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

PLAY JAZZ MUSIC IN A WORKSHOP GROUP

Jazz Course UK practical courses and workshops are very much designed for those musicians who enjoy learning through playing in a small group or combo setting. Learning to play jazz in a workshop group has been proven to be one of the most effective formats for improvisation based studies. Ensembles work intensively with an experienced jazz tutor who acts as teacher, facilitator and mentor to each group. On most of our courses numbers are deliberately limited to no more than around 10 students per group to maximise the learning experience.

LEARN JAZZ PERFORMANCE TECHNIQUES

At Jazz Course UK we recognise that our students have a variety of musical aspirations and learning curves. Over many years we have developed a comprehensive yearly programme to cater for a wide range of abilities from the novice improviser through to professional musicians, music college students and music teachers. Alongside our unique, progressive set of Jazz Weekender courses in Scotland – which provide students the opportunity to learn jazz performance techniques, jazz theory applied in a very practical way, and relevant performance related experience in many styles up to an advanced level – we also run more general ‘taster’ workshops and courses at entry level. There really is something for everyone in our workshop programme.

STUDY JAZZ ONLINE

From 2012 we are offering students the opportunity to study jazz online with Jazz Course UK. This development will allow students to receive individually tailored one-to-one support direct from our fantastic jazz tutor team. This service will be designed to provide ongoing support to our students before, between, or after our practical courses, and is all part of our continued efforts to provide our students with meaningful educational experiences.
