The Music of Horace Silver
Exploring the enduring music of pianist and composer Horace Silver, a founder of what became
known as ‘hard bop’ or ‘soul jazz’. Silver came to prominence in the 1950s as an instrumentalist
and bandleader. His tightly rehearsed groups became known for their great sense of swing,
while retaining an essentially soulful sound. Many of Silver's compositions such as
"The Preacher," "Song For My Father’" "Nica's Dream," and "Sister Sadie," have become true jazz
classics and are played around the world.
